TECNO Telecoms Limited, a leading manufacturer of high-end smartphones and feature phones for emerging markets, is set to commission the Ikeja Street Light project in fulfilment of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The Ikeja Street Light project, which was born out of a CSR strategy session at the TECNO office, Ikeja in 2014, involved the installation of solar-powered street lights in designated streets of Computer village, the electronics mega-market, in Ikeja, Lagos.

The street lights and all its components were installed by Arthur Energy Technology Ltd – the project’s contractor – and was completed within the agreed time frame.

Speaking on why the project was delivered within the agreed time frame, Mr. Arthur Okeyika, the project’s head engineer and CEO of Arthur Energy Technology stated that the Ikeja community youths were instrumental in the quick completion of the project.

“The community youths guaranteed our workers safety throughout the project including the security of project materials against theft and vandalism. Every support we needed to ensure that the project was completed on time was given to us; our engineers were even comfortable to work night shifts because of the assurances of the youths,” he said.

“The iFLUX panels and LED lights used are top-of-the-line, they’re as good as the best you can find anywhere in the world,” Mr. Arthur added.

TECNO, under the auspices of Ikeja Community Development Area (ICDA), will officially commission the project in a ribbon-cutting event on January 21, 2016 at the ground of the electronics mega-market by 9:00am.
Dignitaries from the Lagos State Government, Ikeja local government area, community heads and local businesses are expected to attend the event.

The management of TECNO Telecoms Limited officially obtained the project approval from the honourable chairman of Ikeja community development area, Mr. Niyi Olasoji and members from the Ikeja CDA on November 25, 2015.

The Ikeja Street Light project is TECNO’s way of expressing gratitude to its host for providing the enabling environment for business and wealth creation for its stakeholders and the many Nigerians who make a living in the retail and distribution value chain of the telecoms and service sector.

Since TECNO commenced business operations in Nigeria few years back, it has taken the mobile phone industry by storm, churning quality, durable and lovable smartphones, not least the Phantom 5, a flagship premium smartphone launched in September last year.
