Professor Sir John Pendrys invisibility cloak

Imperials Professor Sir John Pendry of the Department of Physics, is a condensed matter theorist whose research work has underpinned the development of the first invisibility cloak.

He worked with researchers at Duke University, USA, to create a prototype cloaking device that renders an object invisible to radar waves. Instead of striking and reflecting off the object  the waves flow smoothly around it as if it were not there, giving the illusion of transparency.
