DCA sued Samsung for failing to update 82 per cent Android devices

Samsung, the arguably largest smartphone manufacturer has been sued by Dutch Consumers Association (DCA) for not providing updates to their devices for more than 24 months since inception and even from the date that all device are been sold.

DCA further accuse Samsung of not providing updates to smartphones released in to Netherland market.

DCA further proclaim that there are other firms in Samsung shoe that are as well failing to provide update to their devices, but Samsung was highhandedly targeted by the group due to the fact it has the largest market share which is more than 80% in Netherland.

“We have made a number of commitments in recent months to better inform consumers about the status of security issues, and the measures we are taking to address those issues,” reads the statement.

On purchasing a Samsung Android phone, customers are given deficient information as to how when they can get their devices updated.. The Consummate bond is requesting that Samsung give its clients clear and unambiguous data about this. Samsung additionally gives inadequate data about basic security vulnerabilities, for example, Stagefright, in its Android smartphones

Windows 10 update for phones delayed once again, Microsoft expects to launch it next month

Its a frustrating time to be a Windows Phone user. Back in October, Microsoft said that Windows 10 updates for Windows Phone 8.x devices would be available starting the end of 2015. But the company had to delay the updates to "early 2016." If youre hoping that this means January, we have bad news: it does not. 

According to Venture Beat, Microsoft announced partners (via email) that its delaying Windows 10 updates until next month. Reportedly, owners of Windows Phone 8.x handsets should expect to get the new version of Microsofts OS starting early, or mid February. 

February is also the month when Microsoft is allegedly planning to announce and launch the Lumia 650, which should become the companys fourth smartphone to run Windows 10 out of the box.

Meanwhile, you can experience Windows 10 on a phone only if youre a member of the Windows Insider program, or if you have one of the three handsets that Microsoft released in late 2015: Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, or Lumia 550. Speaking of the 950 and 950 XL, both should receive firmware updates next month.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been confirmed to receive the Android Marshmallow update, although it is not yet certain when. A GIGA reader offered a tip following an email he received from Samsung, which said that the company is working on Marshmallow for the Galaxy S5. 

Two rollout timetables showing Samsungs plans for Marshmallow have leaked in recent months. The latest gives the Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update a Q1 2016 release, so you can expect it to arrive sometime before the end of March.

In late January, GSMArena reported that an S5 owner in France received an OTA update to Android 6.0.1. You can see screenshots of the update running on the device below. This solitary update seems certain to be a mistake on Samsungs part, especially given that a similar thing occurred last month.

What it does mean, however, is that Samsung must be closing in on a final build of Marshmallow for the S5, and a rollout will likely follow hot on the heels of the S6 and S6 Edges updates. Keep an eye on this page for any further news.

Samsung monthly Android security updates

In August, Samsung – along with LG and Google – announced monthly security updates for several of its devices, including the Galaxy S5. The good news is that the first fix issued by Samsung will patch the code that is vulnerable to the Stagefright exploit.

The bad news is two-fold. Firstly, anyone who has not updated to Android 5.1 will not benefit from this patch, so if you own a Galaxy S5 that isnt on Android 5.1, you will have to wait even longer for a Stagefright fix. Secondly, hackers are reportedly targeting different parts of the vulnerability in order to get around the patch.

To see if your phone is vulnerable to Stagefright, download the Stagefright Detector app from Zymperium, the research lab that uncovered the problem.

Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update (US)

Sprint Galaxy S5 update

Sprint pushed a follow-up Lollipop patch for the Galaxy S5 on August 5, bringing it up to software version G900PVPU3BOG1. The only change listed was a patch for the Stagefright exploit.

The Android 5.0 update for Galaxy S5 owners with Sprint (model number SM-G900P) can now be downloaded OTA. To see if the update is waiting for you, just go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update.

Verizon Galaxy S5 update

Verizon has rolled out another update to the Galaxy S5. Though it still sits on Android 5.0, the update adds a patch for the Stagefright security exploit. The Samsung Galaxy S5 5.0 Lollipop update is now available for those with Verizon devices (model number SM-G900V). The Verizon Galaxy S5 firmware now sits on build number G900VVRU2BOG5.

T-Mobile Galaxy S5 update

T-Mobile recently pushed out the Android 5.1.1 update to Galaxy S5 owners over-the-air. The update brings the Galaxy S5 up to software version G900T3UVS1FOJ4 OR G900TUVS1FOJ4, and includes security updates.

AT&T Galaxy S5 update

AT&T pushed out the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update on 22 October, bringing the device to build G900AUCU4COI5. Head to Settings > About phone > Software update page to download it now.

Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update (UK)

The Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has been available in the UK and Europe for a while, but Samsung has just pushed out a new update for its SM-G900F model. This brings the build number up to version G900FXXU1BOJ1 and includes security, battery use, and RAM and memory management improvements. This also means that the Samsung Galaxy S5 in the UK should now be secured against the latest Stagefright threats.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: Asus

On November 16, Asus posted a list of devices that are set to receive the new Android update on the Asus ZenTalkmessage board. Pay attention to the model numbers – given Asus talent for releasing huge numbers of similar devices, they are very important.

Theres no indication yet of how long it will be before the update arrives, or whether any other devices will get it, so dont hold your breath on either of those fronts.

Android update: Google/Nexus

Googles Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA (over-the-air) update to the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player has begun. The rollout will occur in stages, with some carriers set to receive the update sooner than others. The Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012) and Nexus 10 are not scheduled to receive the update.

Googles Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P devices launched with Android 6.0 pre-installed in October.

Factory images for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow are now available directly from Google.

It includes a quick camera launch on the Nexus 5, 6, 7 and 9, the same as was already present in Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Nexus 6P and 5X. Double-pressing the power button should now, in theory, launch the camera. Whether this happens, or whether your device will simply go to sleep, is a gamble.

The update also adds more than 200 new emoji characters and some other, very minor additions and fixes.

Android update: HTC

Thanks to the official HTC Twitter account, we have a confirmed list of HTC devices due to receive Android Marshmallow. Though the Android 6.0 update is scheduled to roll out at the end of 2015 for the HTC One M9 and HTC One M8, the fine print notes that not all carriers will be able to deliver it. 

Honor has begun taking sign-ups for Marshmallow beta testers in the UK for its Honor 6, 6 Plus and 4X devices.

To participate in the test, just head over to the Honor signup page and enter your devices IMEI 1 number and select the build number of your devices firmware.

In January, HTC One M9 owners in Canada began seeing Marshmallow roll out. The carriers releasing the update were Rogers, SaskTel, Videotron and Wind. 

Elsewhere, HTC One M8 owners on Sprint in the US also began receiving the update, while T-Mobile has scheduled the release for January 25.

HTC Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi confirmed via Twitter that the HTC One M8 GPE will receive Android Marshmallow sometime in October. GPE (Google Play Edition) phones were originally designed to offer a pure Android experience on non-Nexus devices, and were second in line only to Nexus phones when it came to Android updates, but theyve been dying out lately. HTC has breathed a little life back into its GPE device with this update news.

HTC also confirmed that the HTC One M7 would not receive Marshmallow because it is now more than two years old and outside of the update window.

This list below is not final and we will keep you informed of all other HTC devices that are added to it.

Google to roll out Algorithmic update to make Chrome browser faster

Google Announced that it will roll out an Algorithm update to make its chrome browser faster than ever.

The change will constitute a data compressing filter called BROTLI, which was first disclosed by Google in September 2015. The Algorithm update will help chrome browsers compress the sizes of Websites to up to 26 per cent better than what we see in the previous Chrome compression tool- Zopfli.

The Algorithm change is named after a Swiss German baked food, Brotli- to mean "small bread".

Google Engineer Illya Grigorik in a post on Google+ , announced that Brotli will be integrated into Chrome soon, may be in the browsers next update.

"At Google, we think that internet users time is valuable, and that they shouldnt have to wait long for a webpage to load," Google (GOOG) said in a September blog post, when it first announced Brotli. "Because fast is better than slow."
The code is available as open-source codes for interested web developers and browsers to use, Mozilla for instance already showed interest in the Algorithm code to enhance its browser as well.

mumpung hari ini saya lagi tidak sibuk,alangkah baiknya saya luangkan waktu sedikit untuk membuat tutorial cara menggunakan navitel di android,

tentunya aplikasi navitel yang saya bagikan ini merupakan versi terbaru 2014 gan, dan sudah full version lagi, jadi tidak perlu beli lagi. sedangkan, data peta/map indonesia juga versi terbaru kox.

okeh, dari pada bosan lihat saya ngoceh terus,
langsung saja ke topik utama gan,,
pertama-tama siapkan dulu bahan-bahannya. yaitu aplikasi navitel versi terbaru 8.5 atau versi lama 5.0 dan data peta indonesia lengkap.
jika sobat belum punya bahan-bahannya, bisa download dibawah ini :

1. download dulu aplikasi navitel .

NB .
Sebelum pasang aplikasi navitel, alangkah baiknya baca ini dulu ya, karena saya punya pengalaman baik dan buruk selama memakai aplikasi navitel ini :

versi lama dan versi terbaru memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan masing2, berikut kekurangan dan kelebihannya :
 a. versi Lama 5.0
     - versi lama lebih mudah di operasikan dan sistem ngezoom nya lebih enak dipandang dari pada        versi terbaru. maksudnya, versi lama lebih efisien pada layar android yang kecil. karena pada versi lama ini kita tidak perlu ngezoom sampai habis, cukup zoom sampai ketinggian 120 meter elemen2 bangunan dan nama jalan sudah bisa terlihat di peta. pokoknya enak deh
     - versi lama masih sedikit fitur,
     - versi lama support android v2.0 sampai 4.1
     - versi lama tidak support untuk android dari versi 4.2 ke atas
 b. versi terbaru 8.5
   - versi terbaru pada sistem ngezoom nya masih terlihat aneh + kurang greget, maksudnya, kita harus ngezoom sampai dengan ketinggian 30 meter baru bisa melihat POI / Elemen2 bangunan secara lengkap. tentunya ini sangat kurang nyaman di layar android yang kurang lebar, kalau tablet sih tidak masalah.
     - versi terbaru sudah dilengkapi banyak fitur2 unggulan.
     - versi terbaru sudah support semua jenis layar.
     - versi terbaru support android 2.0 sampai 4.x

okeh, sekarang download aplikasinya, boleh pakai versi lama 5.0 atau versi terbaru 8.5,
coba dulu versi lama 5.0 , jika pada saat buka aplikasi navitel 5.0 macet alias stuck di logo navitel, berarti hp sobat tidak support dengan navitel 5.0, langsung saja di uninstal dan pasang navitel versi terbaru 8.5

2. disinisaya menginstal navitel v8.5 , karena navitel v5.0 tidak support di android 4.2.2 saya,, setelah di instal aplikasi navitelnya, sekarang buka navitel, nanti disuruh memilih bahasa seperti gambar dibawah ini. Klik OK

3. setelah itu klik accept

4. jika keluar pesan seperti gambar berikut ini, klik OK,

5. selanjutnya klik No.

6. jika keluar pesan seperti gambar dibawah ini klik Quit . maksudnya buka dan tutup aplikasi navitel untuk memancing agar folder Navitel Content muncul di sdcard kita.

7. okeh,, belum selesai sampai disini gan.
selanjutnya instal Data peta yang sudah di download tadi gan., instalnya di PC / laptop ya, jangan di android.
8. tunggu hingga proses instalasi selesai.
9. sekarang cari  dan buka folder data peta tersebut di Local disk C: > myMaps > Navigasi > Navitel , seperti gambar dibawah ini

10. setelah di buka, sekarang Copy  file yang berekstensi .nm2 yang ada di folder navitel,. jangan copy file berekstensi .nti , .dat , .exe   seperti gambar dibawah ini.

11. Colokkan hp sobat ke PC / laptop menggunakan kabel data / adapter / cardreader
12. setelah itu paste File-file tadi ke hp sobat di sdcard > NavitelContent > Maps > paste disini.
13. okeh, sekarang cabut hp sobat dari PC / laptop
14. buka lagi aplikasi Navitel. nanti keluar pesan berikut yang artinya sedang membaca data Peta / Maps, tunggu saja hingga 100%.

 15. jika sudah selesai, nanti keluar pesan berikut, ikuti saja seperti saya ini.

16. oke,, semua proses sudah selesai,, sekarang, saatnya mencoba aplikasi navitelnya gan.

gimana? aplikasi navitel ini sangat lengkap gan,, semua aplikasi maps kalah deh,, dan sangat cocok untuk kalian yang suka bepergian jauh2 tapi gak tau arah jalan. haha, tenang saja, aplikasi navitel ini punya fitur GPS gratis kox, artinya bisa aktifin GPS tanpa harus Konek Internet. enak banget kan? silahkan uwik2 sendiri fitur2 yang ada di dalam aplikasi navitel ini, jika masih ada yang bingung tentang cara penggunaan fitur navitel maupun langkah instalasi navitel bisa ditanyakan ke saya melalui kolom komentar ddibawah ya.
