Obama reveals Plan to Jump Start Self Driving Cars with 4B

The United state Government at the white House on Thursday reveal its
plans to expend close to $4 billion within a period of 10 years to
make quicker the research and development of self-driving vehicles.

The U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx speaking at a press
conference at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit
said "Automated vehicles open up possibilities for saving lives,
saving time and saving fuel,"
?

It's part of a broader vision disclosed by the US president at his
State of the Union address on Tuesday to develop a "21st century
transportation system." Before mid-year, the US government is likely
to reveal a "model state policy" on self-driving cars that will
create"a path to consistent national policy," as seen in a government
press release.

The US government is planning to spend a sum of $3.9 billion on
testing "connected vehicle systems" country-wide.

The government suppose that self-driving cars will likely reduce the
rate of accidents and head on collisions "We know that 83 percent of
car accidents are due to human error,"
"What happens if human error could be eliminated? That's a powerful
possibility,and that's a possibility worth pursuing."

Got Marshmallow 6 cool things to try with Android 6 0

Got Marshmallow? 6 cool things to try with Android 6.0

Android 6.0 Marshmallow Features

Googles Android 6.0 release is oozing with interesting features -- including some that are easily overlooked.

By now, youve no doubt heard all about Googles Android 6.0 Marshmallow release. Maybe you already have it on your phone or tablet -- or maybe youre hoping thisll be the month your devices manufacturer gets a rollout your way.

No matter: Whether youre already enjoying Marshmallows sweet flavors or merely anticipating its arrival, nows a fine time to bone up on your Android 6.0 know-how and add some of the softwares less obvious abilities onto your mental to-try list.
So grab your brain-based pencil and get ready to jot stuff down: Here are six cool things to try with Marshmallow on your Android phone or tablet.
(Looking for a more detailed overview of Marshmallow and its many changes? Click over to my in-depth Android 6.0 FAQ. Its jam-packed with juicy goodness -- promise.)

1. Take control of your Quick Settings panel and status bar

Androids Quick Settings panel is a handy way to -- yup, you guessed it -- get to settings quickly, especially those you use often. The only problem is that up til now, Googles move toward simplicity in stock Android meant there was no way to customize the panel and make it more useful for your own personal needs.
Marshmallow gives you more control -- but you have to know how to unlock it. Start by swiping down twice from the top of your screen (or swiping down once with two fingers) to open the Quick Settings panel. See the little gear icon in the upper-right corner? Press and hold your finger to it for a few seconds, and youll see it start to spin (whee!).
Once youve finished oohing and ahhing at the pretty spinny show, lift your finger and look for the message letting you know that Marshmallows experimental System UI Tuner has been enabled. And dont worry: Despite the strongly worded on-screen intro, theres nothing scary here (and you can always turn it all off and go back to normal if you suddenly get skittish).
Now that the System UI Tuner is enabled, head into your main system settings and scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the list. Tap the newly present "System UI Tuner" option, and marvel at all the fun and fancy things you can do.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow: System UI Tuner
You can tune a Marshmallow, but you cant tune a fish: Android 6.0s System UI Tuner
The section labeled "Quick Settings" will let you add, remove, and reorder tiles from the Quick Settings panel. "Status bar" holds a checklist of icons that show up in your top-of-screen status bar -- things like those symbols for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular data youre always seeing. You can toggle any of them on or off to eliminate extra clutter (provided, of course, that you dont find them useful).
And the menu item called "Show embedded battery percentage" puts an actual numerical value into the always-present status bar battery icon so you can always see exactly how much power you have remaining at a glance.

2. Say so long to pesky peek notifications

One of Android 5.0s most misguided additions was the "heads-up" or "peek" notification -- a new kind of notification that showed up on your screen and got in the way while offering no easily expandable information. The Android 5.1 Lollipop release made things a bit better by allowing you to swipe up on such alerts and get them out of the way without dismissing them entirely, but the intrusiveness and limited functionality of the setup still made it less than ideal for lots of us.
Well, thank your lucky stars: Android 6.0 introduces a way to disable "peek" notifications on an app-by-app basis, so you can choose what apps are able to interrupt you in that way and what apps are limited to good old-fashioned unobtrusive status bar alerts. (Thats right: No third-party workaroundsrequired!)
Just mosey into the "Sound & notification" section of your system settings and tap the option labeled "App notifications." Find the app you want to adjust and tap it -- then uncheck the "Allow peeking" setting on the screen that appears.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow: Peek Notifications
No peeking: Marshmallows way of saying "leave me the hell alone, you app-hole!"
Now crack open the bubbly and take a victory sip, for you shant be bothered again.

3. Try out Marshmallows advanced text selection tools

In addition to making it easier to select and manipulate text, Android 6.0 has a new feature that lets developers tap into the text selection tool and add their own custom options.
In other words, you can select text -- on a Web page, in an email, in a document, or wherever -- and then use the same pop-up menu that has commands like "cut" and "paste" to beam the text into a third-party app for seamless on-screen actions.
Its a pretty niche feature, really, and it probably isnt something a ton of apps are going to (or should) take advantage of. But a couple of early adopters are putting the system to use in interesting and potentially handy ways.
If you dont already have em, grab the Google Translate and Wikipedia apps from the Play Store (both free). The former lets you select a word or phrase anywhere in the system and then translate it into another language on the spot, without switching apps or disrupting what youre doing. The latter offers a similar function, only -- as youd expect -- with a Wikipedia lookup instead of a language translation.

4. Give your device some situational smarts

Android 6.0s Do Not Disturb mode makes it easier than ever to keep your phone from beeping or buzzing when youre busy -- but beneath the surface lies an option thatllreally simplify your life.
Head back into the "Sound & notification" section of your system settings, then tap the line that says "Do not disturb." Next, select "Automatic rules" and start thinking about when exactly you want your phone to stay silent.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow: Do Not Disturb Rules
Android 6.0 knows when to shut up -- if you take the time to teach it
You can create rules to keep your device totally quiet or mostly quiet based on the day and time or on the presence of specific types of active calendar events.
Ahh...the sound of silence.

5. Give Marshmallows new hidden file manager a whirl

File managers have been around on Android for ages, but Google has never built one natively into the OS. That all changes with Marshmallow, though the new system-level file manager isnt exactly designed for the average user to find.
Want to try it out? Go to your system settings and tap "Storage & USB." Scroll all the way to the bottom and look for the line labeled "Explore."
Tap that, and ta-da: Youve got a functional, albeit basic, file manager on your hands. Itll let you browse through the full contents of your devices storage and delete, share, or copy files as needed.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow: File Manager
File Marshmallows hidden file manager away in your bag of personal Android tricks
If you need to do more than that, a third-party file manager app is still the way to go. (I like Cabinet, though there are plenty of more robust options if you need something with lots of oomph.) But hey, its still interesting to know what your phone and tablet are capable of doing, isnt it?

6. Play Googles hidden Marshmallow game

Google loves Easter eggs -- those tasty bits of silliness tucked into software and waiting to be found. Wouldnt you know it, then, that Android 6.0 has its own amusing little gem: a new Flappy Bird-like game that challenges you to move tiny Android robots through a deadly marshmallow jungle (yes, really).
To get to it, go to the "About" section of your system settings. Tap on the line with the Android version a few times until you see a giant "M" appear on your screen. Tap the "M" a few times, then leave your finger pressed down on it. When yo

Google may soon outsmart FaceBook, Whatsapp and others with New (under-development) Messaging Tool-Chat bot

The messaging app is more of Intereactivity between friends who uses the app, it promises an extremely new Chat functionality that will allow users ask questions from the tool (chatbot) which will then turn to the Google search engine and other unknown information library to present related answers to users query.

The Application will demonstrate an interlocutory relationship with its user, It can learn the allergies, preferences and users personal information and use it to provide bespoke Information.

It was recently researched that there are more than 2 billion mobile device users getting connected with friends and relations on the go with Instant messaging apps like the popular Whatsapp and facebook messenger, Google with its Hangout tool desired to have its fair cut of this number of users but the Google Hangout tool appears to be a utter failure as it couldnt get its desired Audience.

Fast Times With Nelum OS

Fast Times With Nelum OS

Nelum OS is a light and fast live-installable Linux distribution family offering three separate releases.
"Nelum" means "lotus" in Sinhalese, the language of Sri Lanka, according to developer Ostro Leka.
The distro is a brand-new entry to the land of Linux, with its initial release posted earlier this month. It is an unusual twist on what you usually see with a Linux release.
For example, the virtual desktops can be changed simply by scrolling the mouse wheel or finger scrolling the touchpad.
All three flavors of Nelum Linux rely on Openbox as the window manager. Each version is based on a different Ubuntu version.
Openbox is a very speedy windows manager that doubles as a desktop environment. It lacks a convenient setup panel. Instead, you have to edit a config file. Out of the box, Openbox is quick and simple to use.
Nelum Openbox 32-bit is based on Debian Sid. Future releases will be rolling based on standard mainstream Linux operating systems. Nelum OS 16.04-64 is based on Ubuntu 16.04. Nelum-Bang is a minimalist distro based on Debian Jessie.

Acting on an Idea

"All three distros had been lying in my hard disk for a long time. I had uploaded some distros to SourceForgeand Linuxtracker few years ago," Leka told LinuxInsider.
Those three distros may be considered new. The common denominator is the Openbox window manager, which is highly configurable, he noted.
"Openbox could be a very nice looking interface. I find SourceForge an easy place to upload distros. It is pretty easy to create the now-defunct CrunchBang look," Leka said.

3 Versions, One Distro

Openbox is the common thread that ties the three versions together, but that doesnt mean the editions are identical.
One difference is the range of installed programs. The Nelum Openbox edition has a Control Panel to hold a unified placement of system settings. Nelum OS-16.04-64 edition has a Google Docs entry in the menu. It loads access to all Google Docs apps and spreadsheets from a separate Web browser tab.

Common Ties

The three versions share similarities as well. For instance, all three editions have Conky and Tint2 applets on the desktop, as well as the LibreOffice suite.
Another unifying element is the use of the Synaptic Package Manager rather than a distro repository. This is a fine alternative, except that it forces you to do the upgrade package option manually for all but one edition.
Normally, when a Linux developer releases 32-bit and 64-bit versions, the releases are otherwise identical. Nelum is different.
I looked at all three editions and found that I could not discuss the distro without detailing each one.

Nelum OS 16.04-64

This version of the Nelum distro requires a username -- the word "live" -- to load the installation DVD. This seems like a useless step.
Nelum Openbox 64-bit
The Nelum OS edition is a 64-bit rendition that favors the look and feel veteran Linux users will recognize, with its top-of-the-screen panel bar and launch dock on the bottom.
I had trouble loading this version in several test units. It did not boot in some computers, and in my newest computer, it balked at loading unless I used the UEFI version on the same installation disk.
A second problem I had was that this version failed to recognize the wireless hardware. It only let me connect using a cable.
Another problem was not recognizing USB or external optical drives I plugged into the computer.
The desktop has a panel bar across the top of the screen and a dock panel at the bottom of the screen.
Default programs in the dock stay there until you right-click and unselect the Keep in Dock label. You add an open application by right-clicking the icon and selecting Keep in Dock.

Nelum-Bang Edition

Nelum-Bang has a stark gray background and white lettering on the screen. System information and shortcut keys display in the upper right of the screen.
Nelum Bang
Nelum-Bang defies the experience of the typical minimalist Linux distro. Except for its stark background image and minimum software inventory, Nelum gives you considerable bang for your download.
A Panel bar sits on the bottom of the screen. The far left of the bar shows menu button and launchers for Iceweasel, terminal, Thunar File Manager and Geany IDE editor.
The far-right notification area shows speaker control, battery information and network connection status.
You can add any number of virtual desktops to Nelum-Bang. You also can change the number of desktops in rc.xml line 73. This file is in ~/.config/openbox.

Nelum Openbox 32-Bit Edition

Nelum Openbox has the potential to be a popular choice for regular Linux users looking for something a bit unusual. It is well-suited for Linux newcomers.
Nelum Openbox 32-bit
More color and a more modern desktop appearance give the Nelum Openbox 32-bit edition a distinct view of its own among the Nelum distro line.
It has an auto-updating menu, a Control Center and an Update Center that can be accessed from the menu. Hot corners are at the top left, top right and bottom left.

Bottom Line

The Nelum distro isnt your run-of-the-mill Linux offering. Its a no-nonsense distro that forgoes animation and graphical gimmickry.
Instead, all three editions are based on different lineage bases built around Openbox as a desktop environment. All three are fast.

Future iPhones May be powered by Li Fi Light FiCapabilty a Technology With Transfer Speeds 100x Faster Than Wi Fi

iOS code shows Apple is experimenting with the new ultra fast, light-based Li-Fi (light Fidelity) wireless data for future iPhones

Recent versions of iOS have been found to contain references to Li-Fi, an experimental high-speed wireless networking protocol that uses pulses of light to transmit data and is being marketed as a long-term replacement for Wi-Fi.
Beginning with iOS 9.1, the operating systems library cache file makes mention of "LiFiCapability" alongside other hardware and software capability declarations. The change was spotted by Twitter user Chase Fromm and independently confirmed by AppleInsider.

Li-Fi works in a way not entirely unlike a traditional infrared remote control. Data is transmitted by rapidly modulating a light source, and received with a light sensor before being reassembled into an electronic signal.

Unlike your television remote, Li-Fi uses visible light and the modulation happens in a manner imperceptible to the human eye: that means the same bulb that lights your hallway can act as a data access point. Its also much faster, with theoretical throughput capacity of up to 224 gigabits per second.

Li-Fi is still in the experimental phase, but a number of companies are working to commercialize the technology. At least one firm, India-based Velmenni, has already begun real-world testing.

In addition to the software references, Apple is known to be working on hardware implementations for light-based wireless data transfer, or optical wireless communication.

A patent application filed in 2013 and assigned to Apple describes a method of "optical modulation using an image sensor." The sensor in question could be switched between image capture and data capture modes, allowing for light capabilities without adding additional hardware.

Apple envisions this particular system being used for indoor location, but the general principle is the same as more high-bandwidth applications.

Amazon seek to outsmart Bestbuy on games with 20 discount

You are a no-nonsense gamer and a Prime Amazon Account holder, then life just showed signs of improvement for you; Amazon has
declared a straight 20% off on all new physical games for its Prime account holders.

The organization has not declared a particular due date for the deal and there are equivalent possibilities that it might end the arrangement after some time as a constrained time offer, or might make it a lasting part of its recreations bargains.

Along these lines, on the off chance that you need to make the vast majority of the deal, then its prudent to visit the Primes retail section as quickly as time permits and arrange a few purchase.

The rebate is legitimate for every new diversion amid pre-request and two weeks after the dispatch. In the event that the game is as of now on under 20% rebate, then Prime individuals will get 20% off. The markdown likewise incorporates restricted releases of gamed nonetheless, it doesnt apply to packages including console groups. You can check out the recently released games by getting to the retailers "new release" section.

Critics assert that Amazon has made this most recent move to give better rivalry to its opponent, Best Buys Gamers Club enrollment, which is accessible at just $30 starting now, while Amazons Prime tolls at $99.

They agreed that Amazon might take a interim lead and witness a support in deals for the time being.
Notwithstanding, it would need to receive a long-term way to deal with counter its opponents Gamers membership that started around 2008 that is worth $14.99 just.

OQO with HSDPA and SSD in Australia

I’ve been blessed more often than I care to remember with great devices, by great manufacturers. I’ve had several “first of” in the World but I am afraid none of them (maybe the HTC Shift comes close) were as exciting as this. Obviously I am ont first in the world but first in Australia/New Zealand is good enough for me given that’s where I spend my time.

Given that I have decided NOT to use a HTC Shift as my primary device then this delivery by the FedEX man is e2xcellent! LOL. The OQO e2 has been my favorite UMPC for some time but now with the addition of a 32GB Solid State Disk (SSD) and HSDPA (3G) I am a total convert.

Today, arriving ahead of schedule I might add, I received my OQO e2 and yes it is the SSD model, yes it has HSDPA, and as I like it…it is the Vista Business!!! So stay tuned while I get to know her this weekend and feedback on my thoughts. For now I can tell you that the 1.6GHz (improvement over the 1.5 GHz) VIA processor, and SSD combo, is noticeably faster than my previous 02.

I’m in geek eutopia!

HSDPA SSD OQO doing its thing

...with Mr. 02 watching nervously!

NB. I know many of you will ask so here is why I did not go for the Shift:

 • Battery life in Vista POOR
 • There is no way to communicate between Windows Mobile 6 and Vista, i.e. when my emails come in, and get replied to, on WM6 the process does not get duplicated on Windows Vista. POOR.
 • The device is portable but I am starting to believe that these bigger devices struggle to be considered mobile…(thoughts???)

There’s more but I will leave it for another post.
